Cadillac Repair: Headlights, head lamps, beam headlight

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1985 caddilac brougham. one evening I went to a friends house and my lights worked fine. When I was going to leave, I had no Lights. I have replaced the headlight switch. Now if I hold back on the dimmer/turn signal lever I have bright lights, but as soon as I release it I have no lights again. Is this a dimmer switch problem ?

ANSWER: Either a dimmer switch fault or BOTH low beam head lamps are burnt out.

QUESTION: i will assume then that it is the switch is bad ,being that i have to hold it back to keep the brights on. also does it sound resonable that both lows are out being that they don't work either when i pull the light switch?

Answer
You would be amazed at how many people drive around for months with a burnt out low beam headlight and only come to realixe it, Is when the other one burns out.

Check for battery voltage at the low beam head light connectors FIRST. If you have battery voltage it is the headlight. If you do NOT have battery voltage it is the dimmer switch.

I would say it is most likely the dimmer switch.
