Motorcycle Repair: 03 v-max ele.charging system problem, v max 1200, regulator rectifier

thaks for your time,i own a 03 yamaha v-max 1200 with a eletrical problem. at idle i'm getting around 14.5v,but when i rev it it drops below 7v. at idle the lights are on but they waver from bright to just on. the battery holds a charge too. just would like to know whats wrong with my girl and is  it a backyard job for a shadetree mech.

-it sounds like a bad connection.
It may be a problem with the charging
system components but since you seem to
be getting a good battery reading at idle
I suspect the wiring.

-Have a look at this wiring splice problem,
it may be a place to start looking.

-You may need a tech to check out the
stator output and regulator/rectifier
separately. Stator wires are the 3 white
ones coming from the engine.
They should have .48 ohms between
any two white wires and none should
be grounded. You can test them if you
have a multimeter and pull the connector
apart to get access to them.
