Cadillac Repair: 1991 cadillac eldorado, cadillac eldorado, distributor shaft

Question
I ran the self diagnostic and came up with the code eo41 that states there is no cam reference to the ignition control module! What exactly does that mean and how much should repairs cost?

Answer
You need to rerun your diagnostics and and see if there is a C or an H with the code.

C means that it is a current code that is a definate fault.

H means that it is an intermittent fault.

Which one is it ?.

The cam sensor is located on the distributor shaft. To replace it you would need to remove and disassemble the distributor.

However, what you need to do FIRST is to CLEAR (erase) this code from the computer via the climate control panel and see if it comes back with a C or H. If it does NOT come back start the engine and manipulate all the wire connectors that feed the distributor and see if the code reappears as a C or H code, as if it appears as an H code this would lead you to a faulty wire outside or inside of the distributor and or a faulty cam sensor.

Depending upon your mechanical ability you can replace the cam sensor yourself.
