Cadillac Repair: 96 caddy deville clicking noise from inadvertant power relay, door switches, installed alarm

Question
Hello, I have a 96 deville that was not starting, the other night i opened the door and the interior light for the door switches, headlight controls was pulsing on and off, also there was a clicking noise coming from under the hood which turned out to be the inadvertent power relay, and a bumping noise that appeared to be coming from the trunk area. was wondering what it could be. have new battery was told old one was bad, and have yet to install

Answer
Hi Kelvin,

Computers are kind of strange in that if you don't have the correct voltage coming out of the battery...at least 9.6 volts...strange things with the electrical system start to happen just like you are describing. I would get out your voltmeter and see what the battery shows. If it is less than 12 volts then install the new battery and see if the problem persists. The trunk noise could be anything. What I would do is get inside the trunk with a flashlight and the remote or make sure someone is standing outside the car so he/she can open the trunk so you can get out after you discover the source of the noise.

One other thought on the lights turning off and on is that maybe you have an aftermarket installed alarm that is malfunctioning or has gone off. You might look under the dash below the steering column area and see it there is one. You might consider cutting it out and soldiering the wires back to the factory way and then taping them up.

Let me know if you need anymore help. Bill
