Cadillac Repair: starter disabled, lock cylinder, wiring harness

Question
when I turn the key over the computer says "starter disabled due to ati-theft...".  What can I do to reset or disable this function so I can start my car?

Answer
Hi Patti,

Usually that message comes up when one of the 2 wires coming from the ignition lock cylinder flex in half. The fix is to replace the lock cylinder and the 2 keys or install a resistor in the wiring harness coming from the lock cylinder after cutting the wires. Both those jobs are best done by your mechanic so the wrong wire isn't cut and then the airbag will blow up.

I would need to know the year make and model of your vehicle to give you the correct repair info. Bill
