Cadillac Repair: cadillac dash, vacuum hoses, cadillac sedan deville

Question
I have a 1989 Cadillac Sedan DeVille and the problem is with the climate control and fuel gage. They won't work at all and all they display is " c's", is this a big problem?
Also, my ABS master cylinder is shot I've been told how could I fix these problems?

Answer
Hi Trevor,

The master cylinder would be best to have replaced by your mechanic because there are special procedures that need to be followed or the brakes could develope an air pocket in a line and the car might not stop.

As for the display problems that is something that you could fix yourself. First disconnect the a/c programmer electrical connector with the key off. It is located behind the glovebox and has 5 or so vacuum hoses that attach near the bottom. After unplugging the electrical connector turn the key on and see what the panels show. If normal replace the programmer. If C then turn the key off and disconnect the climate control panel. Turn the key on and if the fuel data panel displays a number replace the CCP. If it still shows a C turn the key off and reinstall the electrical connector and unplug the fuel panel. If the CCP shows a number then replace the fuel panel. If it still shows a C it means there could be a short in the wireing or possably a defective body control module. Should you get to that point it would be best to have your mechanic look at that problem also to confirm what part needs to be replaced.

       Hope that helps. Bill
