Cadillac Repair: 1989 Cadillac A/C, wireing diagram, power changes

Question
Im having problems with ac. I have replaced old ac with a rebuilt, but i am only getting about 7 volts to the compressor. what would cause me getting only 7 volts or is that the amount needed to engage the clutch.

Answer
Hi Charlie,

7 volts isn't enough to allow the a/c clutch to engage. Sounds like you could have a bad a/c compressor relay. You could remove it and replace it with a relay that has the same part number from a differant location and see if it engages. If it does then buy a new relay. If not then you will need a wireing diagram to trace the circuits and see where the power changes from battery votlage to 7 volts.
