Cadillac Repair: 91 Fleetwood problem, camaro iroc, cadillac fleetwood

Question
Hello, I have a 1991 Cadillac Fleetwood with the 4.9L V-8 and it has 257,000 miles on it. I bought it two days ago and everything was great, but yesterday I filled up the gas tank and fuel ran on the ground underneath the car as if there was a hole on top of the fuel tank. I was not pleased. But i figured since i only spent $400 on the car I shouldn't be to worried about it being a pos. I left the gas station and made it almost all the way home (10 miles from gas station) and the car simply shut off while going up a hill. It will not start now I have tried and tried again. I do not know how loud the fuel pump on a Caddy is but i know my 89 camaro Iroc is loud as crap. I cant hear the fuel pump on the caddy as well as i noticed that i pushed the fuel pressure relief valve on the fuel rail and no fuel ran out. I am deeply confused as to what could be wrong. Please help...

Answer
Check the fuel pump fues FIRST.

Have someone listen at the gas tank when you turn the ignition switch to the ON position ONLY. Do NOT try and start the car. Your helper should hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds and then stop. Does it ?. If it does NOT run for 2 seconds and stop fault could be fuel pump or fuel pump relay. I can provide pICTURES showing you how to jumper the fuel pump relay to see if you acn hear the fuel pump run all the time.
