Where is the starter on a 1997 deville with the northstar v-8 and how do you get to it?

Hi Larry, The starter is under the intake manifold upper plenumn. It would be best to get a manual and read the procedure to see if this is something you want to do. You will need metric tools, special fuel line disconnect tools, a low end touque wrench and a shop manual for touque specs. and procedures. The basic idea is this: 1)disconnect the neg battery cable 2)remove 4 nuts that hold intake plunumn cover on 3)remove 10 bolts for upper plenumn 4)release fuel lines 5)remove fuel line nut at egr valve bolt 6)lift up front of plenumn and prop up 7)remove 2 starter solinoid nuts and 2 starter bolts and remove starter. Reverse the procedure to install. Buy new spacer gaskets. This is the way I do it but they actually advise removing the complete upper intake plenumn completely from the engine but because I am carefull and have done this before I can save time not removeing it completely. Again read the procedures and see if this is with-in your capabilities because it is kind of complicated. Good luck. Bill
