1995 caddy concourse had a leak in ac system, repaired when auto is put on get message very low on refridgent ac compressor is shut off. how do i get freon into the system and get the compressor to engage?

Hi Bob,

    After the system has been sealed up it needs to be pulled into a vacuum for at least 15 minutes and preferably 30 minutes with a good quality vacuum pump. The correct oil is added and then as much freon as the system will take up to the recommended fill amount. At that point the codes should be cleared and then the compressor will engage allowing the remaining freon to be installed into the system.

     If you don't have a vacuum pump that can pull 28inhg then all the moisture can't be removed/boiled out and it won't get as cold. It really would be a good idea to have your mechanic do the recharge. Bill
