Cadillac Repair: Eldorado Coolant Temp. Sensor, powertrain control module, coolant temp

Question
Hi Bill:
I have to replace the coolant temp. sensor on my Eldorado
ETC 1997. Could you tell me where is it located or provide me with an schematic in order to perform this repair? I took it to my mechanic but he wasnt able to find it and just did some kind of alteration to make fans work.
Thank You.

Answer
Hi Joseph,

In looking in the shop manual I can see why he couldn't find it because it took me alittle looking myself. Here's how to find it.

Open the hood and stand on the drivers side looking at the rear of the engine. Find the waterpump on the LH side of the manifold. Follow it across and you will see what looks like an engine lift bracket. At the bottom of the bracket is the sensor.

Just remember to remove the sensor when the antifreeze is at room temp. so you don't get burned. Taking the rad cap off and draining the coolant down would be good but at least take the cap off to relieve the pressure that is built up. Then unscrew the sensor after removing the wire connector and screw the new one in.

Hopefully that will gets the fans working properly. Usually there is a trouble code that will store in the PCM/powertrain control module that will help lead to the repair. Bill
