Cadillac Repair: 1990 Cadillac Deville, cadillac deville, brake pad

Question
Hi I asked this question a few days ago.

"I have a 90 Deville with 158k on it. After about 10-15 minutes of driving I start to hear a squeaking from the front of the car. It sounds like its near the drivers side front wheel. The faster I drive the faster the squeak, the slower I go the slower it squeaks. There is no vibrations or anything, just the squeaking. Also when its squeaking and I turn the wheel to the left it stops squeaking. I am thinking it might be a bearing but I am not sure and love some advice on this, thanks in advance."

I forgot to add a few things. Before it starts squeaking you can hear a slight ticking. After about 10 minutes of driving it changes to the squeak. Also if I apply the brake even slightly, the squeaking will stop.

Answer
Hi Brent,

With the new information it could be that the brake pad has some metal in it that is rubbing against the rotor and causing the squeak. Other times the manufacturer will put a shim behind the brake pad to stop a squeak. Sometimes the person installing the brake pads needs to spray the back of the pad(metal part) with disc brake quiet and let it set up for 20-30 minuets and then assemble the pads and caliper on the car.

If you can't isolate the noise then it would be best to have your mechanic listen to it because noises are usually easier to repair once the noise is heard instead of trying to diagnose second hand like this.  Bill
