Cadillac Repair: 1993 STS Horn, steering wheel, question thanks

Question
QUESTION: Tom, I have a 1993 Northstar STS with 177,000 miles.  Today, my horn went on while driving and wouldn't stop until I turned the car off.  What can I do?
ANSWER: The horn should blow whether the ignition key is ON or OFF . Does it blow with the ignition key in the OFF position ?.

The horn if fed battery power at all times.

can you make it blow by starting the car and turning the steering wheel in both directions ?. If you can, You most likely have a short in the steering column .

QUESTION: Thanks for your quick response.  Yes, I can blow the horn when when the ignition key is in the off position.  No, I cannot make it blow by starting the car and turning the wheel.  I let the car run for about 5 minutes this morning and it didn't go on by itself, either.  Was yesterday's nightmare an isolated incident?  Any insight and/or suggestions?

Answer
I have seen extremly sensitive horn pads on the steering wheel where the contacts were so close together that any change in weather would swell the pad and set off the horns. I have also seen an intermittent shorted wire in the steering column cause the same thing.

Could have been a fluke also,
