Cadillac Repair: 92 Deville electric windows, gauge wires, wireing diagram

Question
I have electric window problems. All windows have stopped working and start working at alternate times.I have had the drivers and right rear not work, i have had the two front and not the back work, I now have the two front and one rear working. What would cause this alternating problem between all the windows? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Glenn,

You might find the answer to your question inside the rubber boot between the drivers door hinges. What happens is that door gets opened more times than any other door and the wires flex in half. The power comes from the drives door switch to the other switches so if a wire is broken there the other window won't work. It could be a power or ground wire also starting to break and the only thing keeping the wire ends touching is the insulation. That would account for all windows not working. Sometimes the wire ends touche and the window works and when flexed enough times it will quit working altogether.

If you tug on all the heavy gauge wires inside the boot and can't get any to separate it could be a problem with a switch, motor or relay. Because of the age of your car there could be several problems in a couple of doors that useing a 12 volt test light or voltmeter along with a wireing diagram will help to isolate the problem.

     Hope that helps. Bill
