Car Stereos: 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, jeep grand cherokee, rubber grommet

Question
Hi, I am trying to figure out what the best way to run my 8 gauge amp wire from the battery to the amp in the rear is. I am having difficulty getting through the fire wall and I dont want to run it under the jeep because I go wheeling every weekend. I want it to be a neat and clean install, but simple. Any ideas?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Brenden,

You're definitely right to want to put it through the cab -- under the vehicle, especially on a 4-wheel drive wouldn't be a good idea.

Get underneath the truck, and look around where the driver sits.  You should find a hole (possibly with a rubber grommet in it) there.  Since they use the same firewall regardless of options, you can usually find somewhere where there's an unused hole.  With a rubber grommet is just a bonus.  Pull out the grommet, poke a hole in it, run the power wire through it, and then put the grommet back.  Free protection through the firewall for your power cable!

Beyond that is up to you, but I usually install them underneath the plastic trim that go along the sides of the truck.  Make sure you run the RCAs going to the amp on the OPPOSITE side of where you run the power, or you'll get some nasty EMI off the power wire into your signal.
