Cadillac Repair: thermostat change, upper radiator hose, lower tank

Question
Hello, how do I change my thermostat on my cadillac deville '89 and what tools do I need?  Where is it located? Thanx

Answer
Hi Quaashie,

That is an easy thermostat to change. Just follow the upper radiator hose to where it connects to the engine and underneith the houseing that is held on by 2 13mm bolts...it might be 15mm I don't remember for sure...is the thermostat. Make sure you drain the antifreeze down in the radiator aprox. 12" and then remove the t-stat. The engine can be alittle bit warm but don't ever remove the rad cap when the engine is hot or you could get a gusher spraying out all over the place and cause serious burns.

So basically a 13mm or 15mm socket, extension and ratchet are all the tools you should need other that a drain pan to catch the antifreeze that will be drained from the rad after opening the drain screw on the drivers side lower tank. Bill
