Question
Yes I can smell coolant in the engine bay.  Another friend told me that I may have blown a head gasket.

-----Question-----
I have a 1992 Cadillac Deville and my coolant temp light always comes on and my heat does not work.  I changed the the thermostat and that briefly fixed the problem but then the light came on again a few days later.  Then my stop engine temp light started to come on and I found a small hole in the radiator.  So I had the radiator replaced and after I left the shop the coolant temp light came on again and my heat still does not work.  I have been told that when the heater core goes then your passenger side floor board will become soaked and you will smell antifreeze through the vents and I have not experienced any of those problems.  I have felt the hose where the thermostat is and it gets hot and I read that that happens when the thermostat is bad.  What do you think is wrong?
-----Answer-----
Well the hoses near the thermostat are supposed to be hot. The heater core could be blocked and it wouldnt leak but coolant wouldnt be able to pass through, you can check the heater valve also. You can flush the cooling system to try and get any rust or blockage out.
And for my question, can you smell any coolant in the engine bay?

Answer
That is not a good sign, you can look for the coolant on the engine, first trace the hoses from the radiator to the water pump and then out from the pump to the heater core, then where the thermostat housing hoses connect, and finally back to the radiator. A costly fix would be to replace the cooling system components which is about $100 worth of parts. Or you can dump a radiator seal bottle in and hope it seals up your problem.
If the head gasket is in fact blown, i wouldnt try to replace it yourself, unless youve done it before.
