Cadillac Repair: HEATER CORE ON 1991 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD, cadillac fleetwood, clamping diode

Question
HI BILL I HAVE A 1991 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD WITH A COUPLE OF PROBLEMS.FIRST IS THE WIDSHIELD AND OTHER WINDOWS IS FOGGING UP AND SMELL ANI FREEZE.I THINK THE HEATER CORE IS LEAKING CAUSING THIS.DO YOU KNOW WHERE IT IS LOCATED AND IS THERE MUCH INVOLVED IN CHANGING IT.SECOND IS WHEN THE AC IS RUN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME IT WILL SHUT THE ENGINE OFF SOMETIMES AND EVEN BLOW THE FUSE ,AND ALSO WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE TRANSMISSION WILL STAY IN HIGH GEAR.CHANGING THE FUSE WILL MAKE THE AC AND TRANSMISSION TO WORK AGAIN.I HAVE HAD THE CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE REPLACED ABOUT A YEAR AGO.THANKS FOR YOUR HELP....

Answer
Hi Richard,

You're probably right about the heater core. To answer your question about ease of replacement or the a/c issue I would need to know if the Fleetwood is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive.

However as I recall replaceing the core doesn't require removeing the dash so is isn't too hard.

The A/C compressor connector has a clamping diode and if it shorts out then that could cause the engine to quit.

Give me some more info if you need more help. Bill
