Cadillac Repair: A/C question, gm cars, northstar system

Question
Hi Bill
I may have a quick question.
I have a 94 Eldorado, with the Northstar system.
Never a problem over the years, beautiful car.
I had an a/c freon leak, which I replaced the low pressure valve on the accumlator & recharged the system, BUT the compressor does not kick in anymore. Is there a switch that needs to be reset or replaced? The a/c fuse is fine.. Years ago on GM cars, it was always a thermal switch that needed replacing.
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Guy, What is happening in this computer age is now that a body computer has control of the a/c functions and it sensed low freon, it has set a trouble code that must be cleared before the a/c will engage. This keeps the compressor from being damaged if it were to try and run too long without freon or oil due to a major leak while you are driving. Get the a/c codes cleared and you will have a/c operation again. Bill
