Cadillac Repair: 92 seville wont start, cadillac sts, purple wire

Question
I have a 92 cadillac STS 4.9L. I got in to go to work and had no problems. When it was time to go home, I turned the key in the ignition and it didn't even make a clicking sound. The battery read 12.24 volts even when I tried to turn it over it didn't drop below 12v. I bought a brand new starter and intalled it and still nothing. Can you please help me? What could this be?

Answer
Your problem could be the:

Starter enable relay.

A fault in the theft system. Are you getting any dash messages ?.

If you jumper the battery terminal at the starter to the "S" terminal single PURPLE wire at the starter will the engine try and start ?.

When trying to start the engine with the key are you getting battery voltage to the PURPLE wire at the "S" terminal on the starter ?.
