Cadillac Repair: Air conditioning cycle, cadillac seville, robert w cox

Question
Thanks, I will give it a try.  I don't know if it matters, but it exhibited these symptoms from the time I picked it up after the repair until now.  I did take it back to them and they checked the level and said it was ok.  The symptoms haven't changed since then.  Always, the same cycling.  Could there be some kind of vacuum leak that would cause this?  I don't hear anyting from under the dash, but that really doesn't mean anything.

Question -

Thanks for the reply to my brake question.  I am going to take a stab at it.  I'm pretty sure I can do it if I can get the lines woven in under the car.

I would like to ask you a question about the same car.  1997 Cadillac seville sts.  Last year, the air conditioning crapped out.  They replaced the compressor and the evaporator.  It does cool the car, however, the compressor cycles on and off so quickly that it never really gets the car cool.  It runs for about 5 seconds and then goes off for about 18 seconds. Sometimes, it doesn't come on at all for a while after start up.  I find that I can interrupt the cycle (i think-could be wishful thinking) by turning the temp knob up and then back down.  When the compressor is engaged, it emits nice cool air, but it just doesn't run long enough.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Robert W. Cox

Answer -
Sounds like a small leak in the system. Add a can of freon .

Answer
When they fixed it the first time they should have evacuated all the air from the system using a vacuum pump and then fully charged the system with freon. Most likely they just added freon and now you have atmospheric air in the system that must be evacuated out and then fully recharged.
