Cadillac Repair: ac problems, cadillac sedan deville, skill level

the fan that blows the air for the ac turn off and
on and as i was driving smoke came from the dashboard and the fan never came on again is there a simple way to repair this problem
i have a 97 cadillac sedan deville with a 4.6 northstar
