Cadillac Repair: 1992 Cadillac Deville BCM Keeps burning up, millerwelds com, wiring harnesses

Question
The '92 deville has not had any major work done.  It has had a slow electrical drain (which I think I found to be the glove bos light staying on) and it has been being jump started.  The first thing was that the Fuel and Climate control displays would not work along with the AC.  I looked at the BCM and found some burned transistors.  I replaced the BCM and exchanged the Information chip inside.  Without jumpstarting, when I first turned the key, the display lit up for a few seconds, then turned off, shortly after the BCM began to smoke and the same transistors had burned.  Is there another computer I should look.

Thank you,

Alex

Original Question:

Question:   Originally, The fuel and Climate control display would not work, along with the AC.  Found a few burned transistors in the BCM after talking with you.  I replaced the BCM and exchanged the chip inside.  When I installed it again, the display lit up for a few seconds and then the BCM began to smoke and I am back to the beginning.
What is the next thing in line I should replace that would be burning the BCM.

Thank you for your help,

Alex

Answer
I have run across this a few times over the years and what you are going to have to do is check each and every wire that goes to and from the BCM for a dead short to ground. This is a very time consuming job but it must be done in order to find the shorted component.

All your tests are performed at the wiring harnesses that attach to the bcm.

I can provide you with an electrical schematic but you have to be pretty good in knowing how to read and interpret what you are reading.

You will need to contact me at:

In order for me to provide you with pictures and and electrical schematic to find and fix your problem since this board does not allow sending pictures.

PLEASE include your original question(s) and the MAKE-MODEL-YEAR and ENGINE SIZE of your vehicle when you contact me.

PLEASE tell me if you do your own repairs and or your skill level of auto repair. This is VERY VERY important if I am to be able to help you repair your own vehicle.
