 Hi Tom.
I have a 1993 Cadillac Sts with an ac problem.
The compressor engages, has been retrofitted to r143a,air blows out of the vents fine but hot. I heard that the ac condensor in front of the engine fan could be a problem, also that there are valves in the system that could get stuck open or closed and cause a problem. How much of this is true and where are these parts? I've looked everywhere online for diagrams of caddy ac systems so I could find these elusive creatures, but to no avail. That  is actually how I found the website your on. If you could help me out or at least point me in some general direction, I would be very grateful. It's getting hotter and hotter in Sth. Florida!!!!
         Thank's,
         William

Is the tall cylinder (accumulator/Receiver-drier cold to the touch when the A/C is ON ?.

WHEN was the retro-fit done. Have you had it working OK after the retro-fit ?.

have you had to add additional freon to the system since the retro-Fit ?.

1)Accumulator/reciever drier is hot to the touch
2Ac has not worked since retro which was about 6 months ago. Retro was done due to the air getting warmer as time went until it was't cool at all.

Answer
You stated: I heard that the ac condensor in front of the engine fan could be a problem, also that there are valves in the system that could get stuck open or closed and cause a problem.

ANSWER: It's 99% baloney.

Apparently you have a leak in your A/C system.

1. You need to add a can of freon and find the leak using an electronic leak detector and fix it..

2. You need to replace the orifice tube.

3. you need to evacuate the system using a vacuum pump.

4. You need to recharge the system.

CAUTION: Working with FREON is VERY DANGEROUS and can cause SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.

If you want diagrams I got all of them. tell me what you want and I can provide them to you. Contact me at:
