Cadillac Repair: Cadillac trunk lid pull down, cadillac deville, trunk release

Question
I have 1998 Cadillac Deville & someone slammed trunk lid down and now trunk will not latch and trunk pull down does not work. It worked great before slamming incident. It clicks if trunk release on dash or remote is pressed but still does not latch or pull down. Is there any diagnostics I can do, if so what.
