Cadillac Repair: 92 Cadillac Eldorado BCM location?, cadillac eldorado, underneith

Question
Hi,

I'm a new owner of a 92 Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe with a malfunctioning instrument guage. The guage is dead and does not work at all. HOWEVER, sometimes, the guages will power up - the DIC will say "Calibrating", then "Calibration complete", then this starts over again and again. As soon as the Calibration Complete message is shown, it looks like something kills the power to the computer that controls the guage, but then comes back on.  However, most times, it sits there dead. Therefore, I have no working speedometer, tachometer or gas guage. This car has the analog guages with the digital DIC (driver information center) right underneith, which is standard for this model car. And I'm sure you're aware that with no functioing DIC, I can't pull any codes out to find out what else may be wrong with this car...

From what I understand, the computer that controls the guage is called the BCM. I am trying to diagnose the issue by trying to locate the BCM, I do not have the factory service manual. I need to know where the BCM is located. Behind the glovebox, all I see is the main ECM that controls the engine. When disconnected, the engine will not start but that guage problem still happens, so I'm assuming its the ECM. I am also seeing another computer with a servo mechanism which I'm assuming is used to control the heating system. When this computer is disconnected, nothing happens. Underneith the steering column is a computer, which I removed and found out it controls the airbag system. In the floor console itself, I removed the paneling to find out that its not in there either.

I am really at my wits end trying to isolate the cause of the malfunctioning guages. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
The reason you cannot find the BCM is because their is NONE. Your problem is with the INSTRUMENT PANEL CONTROL (IPC).

There are some simple diagnostic test procedures that you must do after you remove your Instrument panel by checking fo voltages and ohm meter readings using a digiatl volt/ohm meter.
