Cadillac Repair: keyless entry, cadillac sedan deville, door locks

Question
I have a 1992 Cadillac Sedan DeVille   The remotes for the door locks and trunk quit working. I installed new batteries in them, but it still didnt work. I tested the new batteries and they have 3 volts in them. Could the receiver be bad or do the remotes lose their memory and have to be reset? Does the dealer have to reset them or is there another way?
