The car idles real rough, almost to the point of stalling and the "service soon" and "service now" lights flicker on back and forth. The strange thing is that it doesn't do this every time I start the car. When It does start right it runs very well, other times I will have problems for days getting it to start right.

Answer
OK, Has ANYONE performed ANY work what-so-ever on this vehicle lately ?. Anything ?.

Do you know where the MAP sensor is located on your vehicle in the engine compartment ?. It is a flat black plastic box about 2" long, 1" wide, and a 1/2 " thick. It has a vacuum line and 3 wires connected to it.

With the engine running pull off the vacuum line and feel with your thumb if you have any vacuum at the hose and let me know.
