Cadillac Repair: intermittent stalling, crank sensor, position sensors

Question
Ed,
I have a 2001 Deville that stalls intermitently when slowing down(near stop)or at a full stop.Service records from a previous owner show that the vehicle had a stalling problem one year ago where a crank sensor was shorting out. The "B" sensor was replaced. Also the car takes a little longer to re-start after a stall as opposed to starting the car after it is purposly shut down. Please advise. Thank you!!

Answer
Hi,Don

It sounds like you do in fact have failed crank position sensors, the sensors have been updated and are to be replaced with both pairs, that is both crank sensor a and crank sensor b need to be replaced, they will also have fail codes P0385 P0388 P0335,or will only have P1599 indicating vehicle stall,if any of these codes are present, then the cranks sensors need to be replaced, both A and B,if you need more help let me know. Thanks
