Cadillac Repair: 1983 Fleetwood Cadillac - Wont Startt, fleetwood cadillac, pump strainer

Question
I have a 1983 Fleetwood Cadillac.  It ran out of gas and now (after I filled the tank, of course) it will not start.  The engine turns over.  It was running fine prior to running out of gas.  Do you know what the problem may be?

Answer
Hi Susan,

It sounds like the fuel pump has failed, the fuel pump in your 83 fleetwood is located in the fuel tank,if your fleetwood is Fuel Injected either the 4.1 liter or 5.7 liter engines, the fuel pump is inside the fuel tank and is submerged in the gas,the pump uses the gas to keep it cool, kinda like the engine uses a radiator to keep it cool, what happens after the fuel pump gets old and wears out,it needs more to keep it cool, when you ran it out of gas the fuel pump overheated and due to its age, just failed or siezed up,i recommend changing the fuel pump, the fuel pump strainer and also the fuel filter, this should get it running again, the labor times involved is,removal of the fuel tank, labor time for this is 1.7hrs. if you need anymore help feel free to contact me,Thank you
