Cadillac Repair: Cadillac Shifting Oddly, throttle position sensor, vacuum lines

Question
Yes, it was wiring.  thank you.  new question.  my starter is on the blink.  there was some clanking from that area while driving, and after starting.  now what i get when i turn the key it sounds like my starter sping very fast, but is not contacting anything.  then as it slows, i get a couple clanks, presumably against whatever it is supposed to be turning.  please advise.  new stater?  something else?
thanks

Question -
Here's my question.  I have a 90 Deville that up until a couple weeks ago was running fine.  But now it never shifts at the right time.  I have found a trick that works most of the time.  when I'm driving and the car is revving too high, i take my foot off the gas and then apply it again slightly.  the car upshifts and it's fine until the next gear.  the car is also running rough and of course burning even more gas than it should.  i want to try to fix this myself and i was thinking of starting with the throttle position sensor.  please give me any other possible suggestions
thanks
Answer -
Throttle Positioning Sensor is NOT your problem.

Anything such as spark plugs, broken vacuum lines in the engine compartment, etc,etc that makes the engine run rough WILL effect the shift timing of the transmission.

If you had any recent work performed on this vehicle take a physical look in the areas where work was performed for loose wires, broken vacuum lines or something that just does not look right.

Answer
Sounds like the bendix which extends out of the starter and engages the flywheel to turn the engine is not extending out far enough to engage the flywheel. I would remove the starter and take it into any larger auto parts store such as autozone, Checkers, Napa, etc, etc and they will test it for free. If it is found to be faulty I would STRONGLY suggest that you replace it with a new or rebuilt one.
