Cadillac Repair: cadillac repair, fuse boxes, cadillac repair

Question
I have recently installed a aftermarket stereo with a subwoofer amplifier in my 86 Deville.  After a short drive I shut the car off, stereo working perfectly.  Upon starting the car again, I find that the stereo, along with the digital fuel display, and the digital heat/A.C. no longer work, I have checked all fuses and relays on both fuse boxes under the dash.  I cannot smell, or see any burnt wires.  Any ideas before taking it to a electrician?

Answer
The radio receives and emits various voltages from 5 volts to 12 volts to 16 volts and when an aftermarket radio is installed in the vehicle in place of the factory radio, Most people use a TEST LIGHT to search for battery voltage (12 volts) to power the radio and usuaaly wind up hooking up the 5 volt 16 volt or variable voltage signal wire as there 12 volt battery supply of which usually destroys the BCM (BODY COMPUTER MODULE) and or destroying one or all of the displays due to incorrect wiring.

Try re-instlling the original radio, and see if everything comes back to life.

If NOT, There are seeral test procedures that must be performed in order to diagnose what you destroyed while installing your radio.
