Cadillac Repair: Transmission, cadillac coupe deville, torque converter

Question
what should i do if my cadillac will not pick up  speed? i was told it was my transmission but i dont want to replace it if its not the problem.
i have a 1993 Cadillac coupe deville.

Hi Justin, A transmission could cause the poor pick up but it depends on what your top speed is and how fast it accellerates to that speed...that you didn't mention. Other things to check for before condemming the trans or torque converter are a restricted fuel filter or weak fuel pump, an exhaust that is starting to plug up possably in the converter due to rich running and if the engine runs rough look at tune up stuff like plugs, wires and fuel injectors. Something more obscure are brakes that are partially applied. Hope that helps find a solution. Bill
