Cadillac Repair: crank shaft sensor, fuel pressure gage, throttle position sensor

Question
i have a 93 cadi deville 4.9, we replaced the water pump, battery and belt, when we start the car it runs for a second and quits.  ive had ppl say that the timing is off or that the crank shaft sensor is broke.  any ideas on whats wrong? and do you know where the crank shaft sensor is located.  thanks

Answer
Hi Kim, If the car ran before all the work was done then recheck what you did because there isn't any reason it shouldn't run after replaceing those parts.
The ppl that say to check the crankshaft sensor don't know what they are talking about because there isn't one on a 4.9 but if you had a 4.6 it would have 2 in the front side of the engine block.
And if the engine ran normal before all the work was done and the timming chain or distributor weren't disturbed then that can't be it eithor.
And replaceing the battery still would allow the engine to start and run although there is a relearn procedure to do because the idle might be too high.
If you pumped the accelerator pedal maybe the throttle position sensor stuck in the wide open position which would shut off the fuel. Maybe the fuel pump relay isn't staying closed or the engine computor/ECM decided to quit working for what ever reason. There isn't an oil pressure input to the ECM to tell it that the engine is running...like the oil pressure sender is faulty. Unfortuneately there isn't any one thing this could be and testing will need to be done to determine if you loose fuel pump or fuel pressure or spark is turned off and the engine quits. Hooking up a scan tool to read the computor sensors would help as would a fuel pressure gage. Let me know what your test results are if you want more help. Bill
