Cadillac Repair: Rear Struts, rear struts, 2 nuts

Question
How do I replace the rear struts on an 1986 Cadillac Deville.
Basically, how do you get at the top bolt to remove the old strut.

Answer
Hi Mike, What you need to do is support the lower control arm with a floor jack and take the tire off. Then working from inside the trunk there are 2 nuts that hold the upper mount to the body that need to come off. Then the lower attaching bolts can be removed and the strut will come out. There is no need to remove the center/top strut nut for the mount because the new strut should come with a new mount. The last ones I did the mount was updated with a larger style stud and the 2 holes in the body needed to be drilled out. Hope that helps. Bill
