Cadillac Repair: 93 DTS A/C clutch replacement, clutch replacement, auto parts store

Question
Hi,

The bearing in my A/C clutch has wiped out and I need to replace it. When I went to the auto parts store, they said it just screws off and that they rent a tool kit for this job, but from the size of the wrenches, I don't see how they would fit into the limited area available...

It looks like the clutch has a groove cut for a special tool to pull off this part, am I crazy or is there a "special" puller for this model?

Thanks in advance,
JF

Answer
Hi Jeff, I didn't know they made a DTS in '93 or did you mean 2003? Anyway I believe they come apart the same basic way. If you have a nut on the compressor shaft then it needs to come off. Then there is a special puller that removes the end plate or hub. Then there is a big snap ring to remove and then the pully and bearing assembly should slide off. If its stubborn then they do make a special puller for that too but a prybar or flatblade screwdriver and hammer will help remove the assembly. Just be careful not to damage the coil that is behind the pulley. Hope that helps. Bill
