Cadillac Repair: engine temperature light, rear valve, screw driver

Question
I changed the oil in 1988 sedan deville cadillac.
Now, the engine temp light flashes intermittently.  I didn't have a wrench to remove the filter, so I punched a hole in the filter with a screw driver to remove.  I put the new filter on and tighten it by hand.  could this be causing my problem?  Thanks for any help.

Answer
NO, Changing the engine oil has nothing to do with the temp light.

IF your POSITIVE that the engine is NOT overheating due to a faulty coolant fan operation faulty thermostat, or radiator restriction, Then your most likely cause is the ENGINE METAL TEMPERATURE SWITCH which is a SINGLE wire switch located below the rear valve cover near the front of the engine.
