Cadillac Repair: 92 cad. digital fuel ga. & speedom., digital dash, electrical harness

was working on radio at the time , they did not come back on, after the radio was put back in . all the fuses are ok . all other lite gauge worked , but speed an fuel .     digital dash  was good  up until  radio was removed

Answer
If you were probing the wires in the dash electrical harness with a test light to check for wire problems you may have shorted out the 5 volt reference wire that goes from the computer to the digital dash display. If this IS the case you may have destroyed the transistor(s) in the computer and or the computer.

However, You MIGHT be lucky and install a fully operational EXACT SAME STYLE radio and your display will come back ON.

Some models of Cadillacs in the late 80's and early 90's REQUIRE that the radio be installed for the digitla display to operate as the radio is part of the voltage supply for the digital display.


I know, Sounds CRAZY, But I did NOT build it. Cadillac did.
