Question
I HAVE A 1994 NORTHSTAR 4.6 STS AND I'M ONLY RECEIVEN
SPARK THROUGH PLUGS 7.6AND 2.5. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS THERE A SERIAL NUMBER TO MATCH UP WITH MY OLD ONE?AND HOW CAN I TELL IF ITS MY IGNITION CONTROL MODULE OR COIL? THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME NOW AND IF YOU CAN GIVE ANY HELP WITH THIS MATTER WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECAITED.THANK YOU!

Answer
Hi Eric, We had that situation in the shop yesterday and the best way to to test things is since you know what coils work and what ones don't switch 2 of them and see what happens. But remember to transfer the wires. Then if there is spark you have a coil problem and if spark is still missing the module is bad. You could have an instance where the bad coil, plug or wire caused the module to work harder and made it go bad. So If you haven't done a tune-up yet then now would be a good time to change the plugs, wires as well as the parts you find that are bad. And remember to keep the wires away from the blower motor at least 2" so it doesn't get zapped by stray sparks. As for serial numbers on the coil or module they are just manufacturer numbers and all you need to do is tell the parts person the year, model and engine size and not worry about the numbers because they might not be the same and still be the correct part. Hope that helps. Bill
