Cadillac Repair: Problem Starting Car - Trunk Pops Open, cadillac deville, purple wire

Question
I have a 1998 Cadillac Deville. For the second time when I try to start the car and turn the key on nothing happens except the trunk lid pops up and sometimes the gas cover lid pops open. The first time this happened the car started after 20 minutes now it has set for two days and it will not turn over at all.. just pops the trunk open? When I open the car door I don't get the chimes. Also the battery is strong because when I turn on the lights they are bright. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your advice. Your providing a great service!

Answer
Hi Dennis, Sounds like there might be several things going on here. If you have an aftermarket/non Cadillac alarm installed it might be shorting out inside the module and allowing those things to happen. Other times a button sticks on the remote or car button in the glovebox and when the ignition key is turned and the switch gets power then the trunk and gas door open. As for the starting problem did you try the other key? Maybe the key pellet is dirty or not being read propperly and useing the other key might prove that theory. Or the 2 small wires comming from the ignition lock cylinder might be broken in 2 and sometimes it starts and other times it won't. To test that you will need to get your car to your mechanic. There is a single wire connector under hood by the RF of the RH cylinder head(purple wire I believe) and if you separate it and hook up a 12 volt test light or voltmeter to the wire NOT on the engine side and turn the key to the start position. If you get battery voltage then it is starter time. The fact that you don't get a key reminder chime could be a broken wire/bad switch inside the door or steering column and further testing will need to be done.
Thats the best I can come up with. Glad you enjoy the posts. Bill
