Cadillac Repair: Cadillac Repair, sway bar link, cadillac repair

Question
Thanks Bill for your prompt answer. I believe it may be the front anti sway bar. Is this a job that I can do or can it be tightened? Also I just had the blower motor replaced about a month ago at a Cadillac dealership($$$$$)The clicking noise sounds like the compressor is engaging and stopping and then starting again etc. That was replaced about 4 months ago. Does it sound like an electrical problem? Thanks Agagin!! Rob-------------------------

Hi Bill,
I have read some of your repair tips and they have worked out very well. (Just got done removing the power window master switch and have ordered a new one)My question is: I have a 97 Deville Concours with 52K miles and the front end seems to be "loose". When going over even a small bump in the road it sounds like I don't have any shocks at all. Is this something that I can repair on my own (I'm fairly handy)or is this a large job. Also when I turn on the climate control I hear a lot of clicking going on. Any ideas? Thanks and I'm looking forward to your response.
Regards,
Rob

Hi Rob, Thanks, Its always nice to hear that I have helped someone and maybe I can help in a couple more areas.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by sounds like I don't have any shocks at all. If you hear a clunk noise look for a anti sway bar link that has play in the end. It is located between the strut and end of the anti sway bar. If you have too much bounce or the front end seems to float then the strut is worn out internally and needs to get replaced. The only problem with replacing the strut is getting the spring off and useing a spring compressor. If not done correctly you could seriously hurt yourself. As for the climate control noise if it sounds like a metalic grinding noise then the blower motor bearing is going bad and the motor needs to get replaced. Other times mice like to store things in the blower motor housing and you will need to remove the motor and vacuum everything out and then reinstall the motor. If you need more help let me know. Answer
Hi Rob,With the sway bar if it is the link that is on the end of the bar alot of times I have to heat up the nut so it comes off or just torch it off. If it is the bushing that holds the bar in 2 places on the frame then that is more doable. I would say give it a try and if you can't get the nut off or loose then take it in. There isn't anything to tighten. As for the clicking yes it could be the a/c compressor cycling. What happens is the compressor isn't supposed to engage at temps below 60 degrees F. Also the freon molecules contract and just like a car tire you need more freon in the winter to maintain pressure and less in the summer. That is why on the freon machine there is a compensation for temperature so that the correct ammount is installed. You might have a leak, a sensor is miscalibrated or the pressures are low due to the cold. If you are still under warrenty with the a/c repair take it in and at least there will be a ticket that you might have a problem to rely on in the summer when the outside temps are hotter if it still does the same thing. As a test make sure that the climate control is not on defrost or a/c setting and see if the noise is still there. If it is gone now then you know the noise has to do with the a/c for some reason. Hope that helps. Bill
