Cadillac Repair: 1997 Cadillac Seville Blower motor, digital volt meter, cadillac seville

Question
Please help. I have a 97' Cadillac Seville with a blower motor that seems to go on only when the car wants it to. I could run the car for 30 minutes then suddenly the blower works. Tried everyhing I could (turn on then off, run through the speeds, etc...) but to no avail. I took it to a local mechanic and it worked fine each time he tried. I went to drive it home and nothing was happening. He said the motor was over $360.00 if I wanted him to replace it. Maybe a relay under the hood? I had a relay problem with my lights one time, replaced it and the problem was solved. Hopefully it would be this simple. Thanks in advance. Brian

Answer
Hi Brian, Unfortuneately there isn't a relay in the system. Power comes to the motor from a fuse and the module inside the motor housing does all the rest. To control the speed a signal is sent from the control head to the a/c programmer and then to the motor and the module inside the motor changes speeds. From your discription it sounds like there might be a loose connection at one of the connectors or a poor/loose ground wire. There is a test procedure useing a digital volt meter to monitor the voltage comming from the control head and you might be looseing that voltage but without testing you won't know for sure and since it acts up when it wants to eithor you will need to do some testing or get lucky and have the tech be able to have the car while it acts up. Most times the blower motor will fix this problem but maybe not this time. I would hate to spend $300 and still be acting up. Sorry I don't have a difinitive answer for you. Bill
