In my 99 STS, the drivers side rear door window has stopped working. I heard a loud pop and the window is now loose in it's slide as if it is no longer attached to the actuator. The motor operates, but doesn't move the window. I'm guessing that the control module is kaput. Since it is very expensive to replace, I am interested in just locking the window in the up position and leaving it there. I have removed the inner door panel and the control module. The inner plastic panel is secured with white plastic disks and I don't know how to remove these to gain access to the window actuator mechanism. I've already broken one thinking they might pry off, no luck. Also, once inside can you give me any tips on how to get the window in it's mount on the actuator and in the full up position and how best to disable it in this position. I would truly appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you, Jim

Hi Jim, I believe that the window motor is out in the open and removing the 3 nuts and removing the motor and then pushing the glass to the closed position and then reinstalling the motor might do the trick. Then unplug the wire connector to the motor so it can't move. Let me do alittle more research into the window assembly because I haven't had one of these apart yet to know what you mean by white discs. If the motor goes moves but the glass doesn't then maybe the glass came loose from the channel that attaches to the regulator. Bill

Hi Bill , Once I took off the inner door panel (i.e., the trim panel which has the bose speaker attached to it.) I encounter a molded plastic panel which covers the entire inside of the door. This panel is secured by some type of fastener which, at least from what I can see, appears as smooth white plastic disks about the size of a quarter.  There are several of these around the perimeter of the plastic panel securing it to the metal door. It is this panel which is preventing me from gaining access to the window motor. I have tried to see if these disks pop off by prying one of them and it just resulted in breaking the plastic. I need to know how to remove this inner plastic panel. Thanks, Jim

Answer
Hi Jim, Looking in the shop manual the white plastic clips might be the 9 clips that hold the water deflector in place and are removed by pushing in the pin in the center and then the clip will come out. At that point you can determine if the regulator is broken or just needs a cable or tape replaced which should be available from the dealer. Or how you can shim the glass in place to keep it at the closed position. If shimming don't forget to unplug the electrical connector to the motor. If you need to remove the regulator there are some window regulator clamp bolts that need to be loosened, the glass raised to the closed position and then 5 regulator bolts removed. If the glass moves by itself then maybe the clamp bolts loosened up and tightening them might be all that is required. Sorry the book doesn't show where the clamp bolts are. Hope that helps. Bill
