Cadillac Repair: 94 elderado touring coupe speed sensor., vehicle speed sensor, ebay motors

Question
my 94cadillac etc with a 4T80-E trans.has a bad vehical speed sensor I got the part but the chilton manual dosent tell a location of this part or how to replace it.Ive spent hours looking and cant seem to find it if you could please give me some info on this it would be great.

Answer
Hi Oran, There are 2 speed sensors on this trans. The vehicle speed sensor for the speedometer is located on the outside of the trans on top of the housing near where the drive axle goes in. It has 2 wires going to it and is held in by a 10mm bolt and might be best replaced from underneith the car. The other sensor is called an input speed sensor and is located inside the trans side cover under the channel plate. If you got a trouble code then this is the speed sensor you need to replace and most people feel that the time and money spent to replace it because the trans needs to come out of the car and partially disassembled in the side cover area feel it isn't worth it. By the way the chilton, haynes and motor manuals are ok for the maintenance repairs but to do rebuilds and major repairs and electrical it would be a good idea to check out the ebay web site, go to ebay motors manual section and bid on a factory repair manual. Just type in 1994 eldorado or 94 eldorado and see what comes up. I would stay away from the info on cd as they can be incompatable or pirated and not work correctly. They have so much info they published it in 2 books. Otherwise all data.com has a wonderful site that you subscribe to in 1 year increments that might be more beneficial because they also have some service buletins and recalls listed and it is accessed useing your computor. We have it at work and I like it better than Mitchel in some ways. Hope that helps. Bill
