Cadillac Repair: Seville trunk release malfunction, technical assistance hotline, seville sts

Question
My 2002 Seville STS has developed a problem with the trunk opening spontaneously. When the ingition is turned off, 2 minutes later the trunk opens triggering the horn alarm. When it is closed, it will reopen repeatedly but without the horn alarm. The only way to stop this problem is to put the valet switch to "on" position.
I called my dealer and they had no immediate answers. Can you help?

Answer
Hi Eli, If this just started happening then maybe there was some service work done on the car and a wire was pinched or left unplugged and somehow activating the trunk release. If you have an aftermarket alarm system, one that didn't originally come installed on the car, they can malfunction and do strange things. I would unplug it and see what happens. The mystery is why after a waiting period this happens and where is the power comming from. You might try unplugging the trunk release switch and see if the contacts are staying closed. Passed that it is a matter of unplugging things and seeing if this still happens then you might be able to isolate where the problem lies. If you are still under warrenty then the Caddy dealer has a technical assistance hotline they can call and maybe this has happened before. At least with the vallet switch you can keep this from happening in a public place. Bill
