Cadillac Repair: 1990 Cadillac DeVille Trunk Pull Down Unit, jumper wires, wireing harness

Question
My trunk will not automatically close, and I would like to know how to trouble-shoot the problem. There is power to the unit. Trunk did work fine until now.  I don't see a switch that causes the pull down unit to start.  Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Dick, If you look to the right of the part that the trunk latch hooks on you will see the switch. You will need to remove the cover over the motor to access the switch. It will have 3 wires going to it. Once that is off then remove the screw that holds the switch on and then it should lift straight up. By making jumper wires between the 2 motor contacts and the wireing harness terminals you should be able to make the motor go up and down. One way the motor will go up and reverse the wires and the motor will go down. If it does replace the switch and the trunk lid should close again. If not then the motor has failed and needs to get replaced and should come with a new switch. Hope that helps. Bill
