Cadillac Repair: How can I repair a rear tire that is tilting slighty inward?, wheel bearings, 2 nuts

Question
I have a 1993 cadillac deville and my driver side rear wheel leans inward slighty. Someone said it can be the spindle, but I have found anything in any deville manual about a spindle. What do you think it could be and how can it be repaired ?

Answer
Hi Kevin, The spindle is usually on cars that have replaceable wheel bearings and your car doesn't. What is has is a hub and bearing assembly that would be making a noise or the tire would wobble if the bearing is worn enough. What you want to do is change the camber setting. To do this remove the tire and support the car with a jack stand. Then useing a long breaker bar and a 21mm or 24mm socket loosen the 2 nuts at the bottom of the strut so it can move. Then adjust it where you think it needs to be and then tighten the nuts. They need to be quite tight around 125ftlbs so check the book and use a torque wrench on the final tightening so the adjustment doesn't slip. As you probably noticed this is a tire wearing angle and if not right can cause the tire to wear on edge and or the vehicle not to track straight so haveing a 4wheel alignment done would be the best thing to do. If however you can't get the tire to move enough then look for a bent strut or loose/worn/broken lower control arm or worn ball joint. Hope that helps. Bill
