Cadillac Repair: check engine light, scan tool, catera

1999 catera again. engine check code says misfires in three cylinders ,this is a v6. The check engine light comes and goes no apparent reason. Don't you normally have to reset it to make it go off? Lenny

Hi Lenny, If there is a current code, something is out of range for a sensor now then the light will be on for the durration of the drive. You will need a scan tool to clear the code. If there is a current code then after clearing the code the light might come back on right away. If after a certain number of drive cycles the code doesn't come back then the light will stay off and the code will clear. The light might turn on because you didn't tighten the gas cap enough. Get the codes scanned and then you will know what to fix. Bill
