Cadillac Repair: rebuild or replaced..., metric wrenches, liter v8


Question
hello, i rebuild a 4.1 liter v8 deville engine, but needed two(2) of the "rocker-arm pivet" replaced because they were snaped, could i do it myself?...and...what kind of tools would be needed? OR, if i had a spiecalist fix it what would be the price range?

1987 cadillac coupe de'ville
4.1 liter v8 cylinder

Hi Chan, You will need metric wrenches and sockets for this job. With a shop manual it should be easy to follow the instructions to replace the pivots. The thing to remember is once you get the valve cover off then first remove the 4 bolts that hold the rocker arm bar in place at the bottom and then remove the 5 rocker arm bar nuts evenly until all are loose and can be removed. Then remove the bolts for the broken rocker arm stands and replace them. If you just try to remove the stand bolts you will strip out the holes and the bar will be junk. If you had someone else do the job figure 1 1/2 to 2 hours per side for labor plus parts. Good luck. Bill
