Cadillac Repair: Service SSS light, speed sensitive steering system, cadillac deville

Question
I have a 1993 Cadillac Deville 4dr and last week the "Service SSS" light came on.. So I looked in the owners Manual and it said that I have a problem with the "Speed Sensitive Suspension" or the "Speed Sensitive Steering" system..Now my Question is.. What in the world is that? And how can it be fixed? I would appreciate anything you could tell me on this subject...

  Thanx-A-Bunch...

Answer
Hi Alex, The SSS system is basically a computor that changes the struts from soft to firm ride depending on driving conditions. What you need to do is have the codes read and then you will know what needs to be replaced to turn off the light. Most times it is a bad strut that can't change. Cadillac came out with a bulletin with base struts that do away with the valving and then the computor is disabled so the light can't turn on after replacing the bad strut in pairs. So if the RF is bad you would replace the RF and LF. The way to read codes is kind of complicated and you will need a manual to read the codes and know what the codes mean so I won't go into detail because it would take too much time. Eithor get a manual or take it to the shop but don't let them sell you a computor. Bill
